About me: I was lucky, I found what I wanted to do early in life. Probably in large part because I grew up receiving massage from my mother who has been a Certified Massage Therapist and Zone Therapist for thirty+ years. The body and how it functions is so fascinating to me! Having studied Iyengar yoga for 9+ years now, I am excited to apply my anatomy and physiology knowledge, from the past decade or so in my massage practice, to the yoga teaching. They keep me forever curious on the inter relatedness of the mind body connection.
In 2003, I graduated from the Boulder College of Massage Therapy, a nationally recognized school with unique professional development opportunities and exceptional clinical experience. There, the focus was on zen shiatsu, integrative massage, normalization of soft tissue, and swedish massage.
After Massage School, I was in search for deeper healing, still struggling with chronic headaches after a major car accident in 1998 and wanting to offer more to my clients then strictly massage. Again, following my mother’s footsteps, In 2005, I attended the Dynamic Integrative Institute in Minneapolis, MN and became a Certified Charles Ersdal Zone Therapist. Zone therapy is similar to reflexology but some of the zones are different and was brought to the United States from Norway by Charles Ersdal. This seemed like the next best step to offer to clients for greater health and longevity. Zone therapy has helped a variety of pathologies including but not limited to: rheumatoid arthritis, neuropathy, digestive disorders, headaches, pain, and anxiety.
Still, something was moving me to continue on this path of healing. In 2007 I moved to Seattle, WA where I studied cranial sacral, visceral unwinding, Reiki, and yoga.
In 2012 I moved back to Decorah and most recently became a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. My passion lies deeply in this work. I feel I have only just touched the surface of this brilliant science, art, and philosophy, but it’s an exciting discovery I never cease to be thrilled to study and learn more about. I feel blessed to have been brought to yoga at such a young age do to chronic low back pain and headaches. I have had the great privelege to study under Senior teacher Lois Steinberg in Urbana, Illinois and with Francie Ricks and Chris Saudek in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The path of yoga is life long, and I feel so fortunate to have it as a part of my life. It is with great honor to now offer Iyengar Yoga at The Yoga Studio in Decorah, Iowa as well as private sessions with practitioners in the community.
“Yoga allow you to find a new kind of freedom that you may not have known even existed.” BKS Iyengar
